After graduating from R.I.S.D. and a 2 year apprenticeship with a sculptor, I set out to fulfill my goal of having a Hot Glass Blowing studio. It began in 1993 in Minneapolis and has evolved over the past 25 years. I began by focusing on functional works. My colorful shard series was sold in over 100 galleries, museum gift shops and stores across the United States. My work then started to include expressive Totem Masks, Zen Stones, and other more decorative pieces. My wholesale business grew, taking on a full time employee and ZGS continued selling wholesale for over a decade. Around 2007-08 my back log of commission works pushed me to suspend the glass blowing aspect of my work and focus on commissions and sculptures. I executed 3 large scale public art works and spent a year creating a series of 7 foot tall cast glass sculptures. This lead me to explore carving clay reliefs and translating them into glass. After 25 years of glass making, I am now focusing on my new Tessera Tile Series. These small wall and table top tiles incorporate the relief work I do in clay and the color and luminosity inherent in glass. I have also found a new joy in blowing functional glass again. Color has been the primary thread throughout my career as an artist. In all the forms I have worked in, it is one of integral components that excites me and the viewer/user that have encountered and collected my work.
