David Lotton - Lotton Glass

David Lotton - Lotton Glass

When I was about 10 years old my father, Charles Lotton decided he wanted to become a glass blower. As the oldest I was recruited to help him accomplish this dream. We built a furnace and small blowing area in a small shed in the back yard. The neighbors saved their clear jars and pop bottles donating them to our melting tank. They where curious and skeptical of what my father was trying to accomplish. It is amazing to think that the first Lotton pieces started in such a primitive way. Who would have thought that his dream would grow and effect my life as well as my brothers and our entire family in such a powerful way. I spent my teenage years in the glass shop helping my dad, both of us learning all the aspects of being a glass blower. Looking back at those years I often wonder what I would have become if my father would not have falling in love with glass. His dream became mine and now I can say I have had the pleasure of creating beautiful objects out of hot glass for the past 40 years. It has been an interesting and challenging journey. My father turned 83 this year. He still comes into the studio each day to work with his sons and grandson's. I am very proud to be able to carry on the family tradition of creating beautiful artforms using our family glass formulas and techniques. Every day is a new day to create something new and different, pushing the boundaries of the art of glass blowing. I am looking forward to seeing all of my faithful gallery owners at this show. You are a major part of my success and I appreciate each and everyone of you. Lets make 2019 a year to be remembered. David Lotton
